About the Position: HLA seeks attorneys or recent law graduates to join our well-established and long-standing Civil Program, which focuses on ensuring the essentials of life for people in need in Onondaga County and the surrounding region. Attorneys in the Civil Program provide direct representation to clients primarily in divorce and other family law matters, and may also provide representation in landlord/tenant, foreclosure, and/or unemployment insurance benefit cases. Civil Program Attorneys each handle a caseload consisting of cases from at least one of those practice areas and work collaboratively with one another and under the supervision of a Supervising Attorney and a Managing Attorney to provide high-quality representation. Law Assistants provide administrative support to attorneys, and an on-staff Client Resource Specialist is available to assist clients with non-legal needs.
Qualifications: Admission or pending admission to New York Bar. Demonstrated commitment to public-interest law and to serving low-income persons. Ability to multi-task. Strong written and oral advocacy skills. Diverse economic, social, and/or cultural experiences.
Salary Transparency: $75,000 to $106,705 annually for attorneys admitted to New York Bar, depending on candidate qualifications and experience. $70,000 for law graduates awaiting admission to New York Bar.

Work-Life Balance: Enjoy standard office hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, and from Memorial Day until Labor Day staff can frequently take advantage of summer hours and leave at 4:00 pm.
