EXEMPTIONS FROM TIME LIMIT
For Single Adults and Childless Couples

Some single adults and childless couples will be exempt from the new 24 month (2-year) welfare time limit. This means that they will be allowed to receive their full cash benefits beyond the 2-year cut-off date.

You may be exempt from the 2-year time-limit if you are:

Age 60 and over
Physically or mentally ill or disabled. (If your illness or disability is caused by drug or alcohol abuse, you may not be eligible for an exemption from the time limit.)
Caring for a family member who is ill or disabled
Living with HIV/AIDS (Note: you must qualify for a special needs plan in order to be exempt.)
A victim of domestic violence who is suffering from a mental or physical disability as a result of that violence
8 months pregnant (You will be exempt only for the last 30 days of your pregnancy.)

NOTE

*** You may be asked to prove your entitlement to an exemption from the time limits. It is important to obtain written documentation (from your physician or therapist, for example), which contains a diagnosis of your condition and a statement that you cannot work because of your condition.
